the hotly anticipated last chemo date is just two days away now and i cannot contain myself. I even went out today on a cruise of the yarn shops in the valley that i hadnt been to yet to fill my list up with projects to do, consecutively, thru till we move in december. I went to Needleworld in sherman oaks that was totally surreal, a table full of women alternatly discussing who did their faces and did i pick up this stich right? There was only one other woman there my age, and she was discussing in detail her experience in the last month of losing 109 pounds via stomach stapling. "My youve been busy, i barely recognized you!" It was really creepy, totally what i imagine existing in the valley. I felt really out of place but then really psyched when i found some yarn that had been discontinued at a very discounted price (#1 pumpkin cardigan and lamb ears bonnet in cotton goa yarn for joceyln's baby) and also the #10 circular needles that ive going to use as straights for (#2 actually half done, log cabin afghan in variegated purple blue celery pink and yellow chenille). Then i took a left on Ventura and drove a few blocks to La Knitterie Parisienne (driving on ventura is to have a southern california experience; all of the signs, strange shops, endless consuming possibilites and everyone drive really fast) which is like the besst yarn store ive ever been in! She had every kind of yarn that i had been drooling over online, and gave me (and Renee Russo, who was there!) a quick how to start a sock lesson. So i bought some crazy color german sock yarn (#3 socks in crazy colors wool) and double pointed needles. And touched and fondled pretty much every skein in the store. Oh my. Can you tell i have knitting on the brain? Its the only thing that i can really pay attention to these days, to sit and knit makes me focus and not watch the tv: I actually have been able to read and knit at the same time, the knitting slows my usually fast reading down so im finding that im comprehending more, its ridiculous. Its also a textural thing too, im choosing really sexy yarns to work with and have pretty much converted to slick bamboo needles so its just total pleasure to stitch. Also i have the short attention chemo brain going on now, its official. I am forgetful and cant remember names very well, which i am usually pretty good at. oh well, after thursday theres just to get thes drugs out of my system and then healthyness after that.
Just read an articale about a study linking green tea drinking every day and bad cancer cell death: it does something like the anti oxidents in green tea help a chemical in you to poke the bad cancer cells on the sholder and say hey, its time for you to get outta here. Like a bouncer of the cell club. Ill find a good link to this, to post, ive been drinking green tea every day now (thanks Peter!)
And soon, soon i will move this to lixolux. We have the space, the m_v___l_ t_p_ to do it, and i will also twin this "health and babble" blog with CRAFT WERK my blog about craft stuff so that i can stop talking about it all the time. :) just kidding.
And sewing class is great: the industrial machines we have to use are so intense, my sewing buddy Jamie was first to sew and she put her foot on the pedal and nest thing we knew the fabric was on the other side of the machine! I didnt even see the needle move it was that fast! So we learned that it is best o drive the machine barefoot.. I have some homework practising different kinds of seams and will miss class this week but then jump into tote bags and then cargo pants next class. yippee! pockets!
i am keeping myself entertained, dont worry. :)
